In today’s world full of unboxing videos and exposure to social media, visuals are essential. Here we introduce how to manage a successful socks packaging strategy.
Why is sock packaging important?
It helps to sell your product!
The product itself and all the details that help display the product matter. When it comes to socks, the first thing that draws consumers’ attention is the packaging. The packaging should convey your brand’s values and attract your target audience.
Here are three critical points to be considered in socks’ packaging.
1. Aim for your target audience
The different target audiences define different images you try to convey. For example, if focus on drawing attention of those who concerns Eco-friendly materials, then may probably consider to use “Kraft Paper” as the recyclable material making the packing.
2. Know your sales channel
The packaging could vary on the different sales channels. Like you don’t necessarily need a hangtag when selling socks online.
3. Consider the shipping cost
But always keep in mind to be business realistic! The packaging could add up to the weight, which increases the shipping and storing fee and affects the setting of the unit price. For example, products on Amazon usually adopt lite packaging to decrease shipping and storing fees.
Here at Paultex, our standard packaging is 2 clips per pair with Polybag or PE bag when no special requirements are needed. Once customers have any customized concept, we will follow the techpack to make customized packing. Or we will suggest concepts according to customer’s characteristics of above.
What are the essential elements in socks packaging
Socks Hangtag
Hangtag as its literal meaning has a part that can be hung up for display. To demonstrate the beauty and colors, this fits best for socks with a wide range of patterns like casual socks and happy socks.
Socks Sleeve (Socks Wrapper)
Socks sleeve (or socks wrapper) is a type using packaging to wrap up multiple socks. It is often used for packing thicker socks. The sleeve helps highlight the embroidery logo or jacquard logo when applying to solid color socks.
Socks Label
A sock label is essential for displaying product information (features descriptions) and brand logo. The common types on the markets are Hangtag and Sleeve (Wrapper). With the combination of Hangtag and Sleeve, it allows more information to be put on the back side and inside. If there is more than one pair to be packed, the inner structure can also be designed with loops (bridges) to hold each pair of socks and avoid falling from under the package.
Clips/ Metal Clips/ Logo Clips
When unpacking a new pair of socks, there is often a silver clip clipping together two socks. The clip helps hold the socks in place in a package. It is also a good idea to put the brand logo on the clip like the below pictures. The tiny detail enhances the brand identity and consumers’ experience.
Outer Packaging
The outer packaging is optional, depending on your sales channel or brand identity. Here we introduce two common ways.
Bag
A plastic bag helps protect the socks from dirt, stains, and water. It’s a simple way to maintain the fabric’s condition in either display or stock. Using PE bag is also common, even though the texture is foggy and not as clear as plastic bag. But its biodegradable property makes it as popular as plastic bag. Both PE and plastic bags can be printed with the required design or text on the surface, such as ”Warning” or “Notice” while sales on the back. Other than these, a zipper-lock bag (Eva bag/ environmentally friendly material) could also be an option as a premium packing method.
Box
Using a paper box to pack the socks can bring more fun to your brand. It has more room for designs and can present a strong identity. Considering the partial opening of packaging or adding plastic film allow consumers to feel and imagine the texture of the socks.
